 Khutba Against Grooming - 28th June 2013

The first piece of work that we are currently engaged in is our campaign 28/6 KHUTBA AGAINST GROOMING. We are embarking on a campaign to ask all mosques in the UK to devote the sermon for the Friday Prayers on 28 June 2013 to the issue of grooming.

We are aiming for several hundred mosques to send the same message on a single day and believe that that would have a powerful impact on the Muslim community and we would go a long way to raising awareness about this issue. We will be calling other faith groups to join us.

Christian groups for example could send a similar message in churches on the following
Sunday.
These are the other pieces of work that we are currently involved in or committed to:

• We were active in organising the launch of the Community Alliance Against Sexual Exploitation in Bradford on 10 May 2013. This attracted a large number of local and national media and has been the subject of a lot of publicity which has helped to raise awareness of this issue.

• We will produce a short public information film or advert to be played on the main Asian channels that we want to be hard-hitting and have a high impact.

• We will work with owners of businesses through which children and vulnerable young people have been known to come to the attention of potential perpetrators such as taxi offices and takeaways and similar establishments. As well as raising awareness we will leave them with relevant material and ask them to display posters which are intended to make potential victims and others aware of the dangers.

• We will be working with appropriate partner organisations to carry out research to establish the facts around the issue of street grooming. We will be seeking to learn more about the victims as well as the perpetrators. The facts will enable us to develop a toolkit/resource that can be used by youth workers, teachers, imams and others to have a high level of understanding about the issue, identify circumstances in which a young person is at risk and be able to determine the appropriate course of action.
